An Introduction to DocbookMD

All members of the Medical Society have access to an account on the HIPAA-compliant text messaging service DocbookMD.

Setting up your Docbook account is easy. This post will walk you through the process step by step and provide a little more information on what Docbook is and how it can benefit you and your practice.

Getting started

First, download the free app to your smartphone. You can find it on the App Store here, the Android store here, or use the web version here.

When you open the app for the first time, you’ll see a screen that looks like this:

1

Click “Create Account,” and provide the email address that you receive Metro Med’s emails to, or your Metro Med Member ID number. At the next step, you’ll see a screen like the one below, which will verify your identity.

3

Continue through the screens, which will eventually have you answer security questions to further confirm your identity. These questions may include a request for the last four digits of your social security number: these answers are not stored in any way and are completely secure.

6

Finally, you will have to agree to DocbookMD’s terms and conditions and sign a HIPAA BAA.

7

Once this is done, your registration is complete, and you will be logged into the app.

9

At this point, you will be prompted to enable push notifications on your phone. Make sure these are enabled! This allows the app to provide a notification when you receive a new message.

Now you are logged in and can begin using the app.

If you would like to make edits to your profile information, send your changes to support@docbookmd.com.

Why DocbookMD?

DocbookMD is HIPAA-secure

  • All messages are sent/stored on encrypted servers.
  • Messages are not stored on your device –if phone is lost or stolen, Docbook can delete messages remotely.
  • All users must sign a HIPAA BAA.
  • A PIN can be set on the account in addition to on the mobile device.

DocbookMD has many capabilities

  • On-demand texting – free and unlimited through the app to any other Medical Society member.
  • Multimedia attachments such as x-rays or photos.
  • Fast lookup of physicians and pharmacies.
  • Multiple priority settings are attached to each message: the sender is notified if the receiver doesn’t read the text within a given time-frame.
