KCMS Board Meeting-in Brief

On Monday, April 25th, the Kansas City Medical Society’s Board of Directors met at the society offices at 315 Nichols Road at 6:00 pm. These are the major discussion points from that meeting.

  • After the students from William Jewell were excused from the meeting, the board had a discussion about medical marijuana, and physician thoughts and attitudes toward it. No stance has been taken for or against the subject by KCMS at this time.
  • The Tobacco 21 initiative was discussed. KCMS is embarking upon a collaborative effort with the WyJo Medical Society, in which the discussions and legislative actions being taken in the Kansas City area are being tracked, and KCMS physicians will be notified when there is activity in their area for Tobacco 21 so that they can show their support for the movement, and encourage others to do the same. They will also be sent a mini-poster which can be displayed in their offices.
  • A vaccine awareness project was discussed. This project would also be a collaboration with the WyJo Medical society. Kansas and Missouri both have very poor numbers when it comes to vaccinations; especially for HPV. A task force is being formed; please contact the KCMS office if you would like to be involved.
  • Discussion was had of how KCMS can collaborate even more closely with the WyJo Medical Society in the future, in order to increase advocacy on both sides of the state line and create more efficiency in operations.
