Three area health care leaders will join in a panel discussion “Leading Through Crisis: Lessons Learned from COVID-19” on Saturday, July 11, from 8-9 a.m. over Zoom. KCMS members and other physicians are invited to view the presentation. Panelists will include Rex Archer, MD, Kansas City, Mo., health director, and Lee Norman, MD, secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  Moderating the panel will be Mary Anne Jackson, MD, dean of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of medicine and an infectious disease specialist. July 18, “Medicaid Expansion: Impact on Access to Care”

A panel of community leaders will discuss Medicaid expansion and its impact on access to care in a KCMS webinar on Saturday, July 18, from 8-9 a.m. over Zoom. KCMS members and other physicians are invited to view the presentation. Speakers will include Kansas state Sen. Jim Denning, and former Health Forward Foundation CEO Bridget McCandless, MD, MBA. KCMS past President Mark Brady, MD, will moderate. A constitutional amendment implementing Medicaid expansion is going before Missouri voters on Aug. 4. In Kansas, legislative action to expand Medicaid stalled this year, but advocates will be pushing for the measure again in 2021. There is no cost to attend this PHYSICIAN ONLY event, but advance registration is required to get the Zoom link. Learn more and register.

KCMS 2020 Annual Meeting Set for October 21 at Arrowhead

Physicians and partners will bask the glow of the Chiefs’ historic Super Bowl victory at the Wednesday, October 21, 2020, Annual Meeting, which will be held at Arrowhead Stadium. On the program will be a panel of mayors from across the region discussing health care in Kansas City:

  • Peggy Dunn, Leawood
  • Eileen Weir, Independence
  • David Alvey, Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan.

Moderator will be Bridget McCandless, MD, MBA, KCMS past president and former CEO of the Health Forward Foundation. If COVID-19 conditions warrant, the meeting will be held over Zoom. Watch for further announcements.
