The winter issue of Kansas City Medicine is online. In this issue, you can learn about the NEW Kansas City Medical Society, the 2017 Annual Meeting, our Honorees and Physician Wellness.
This issue takes a deep dive into the commitment to one community medical society, and the efficiencies gained for patients AND physicians with the merger.
In addition, there are more benefits for membership in the Kansas City Medical Society, including actively monitoring and legislative and regulatory matters in the region, as well as state and national advocacy.
The Society remains committed to its charitable organizations and has legally merged to form one entity, the Kansas City Medical Society Foundation. This Foundation will house the charitable care (MetroCare and WyJo Care) and will do a considerable amount of patient education.
This edition of the Journal also includes profiles of the 2017 Kansas City Medical Society honorees highlighted below.
- Richard Hellman, MD, FACP, FACE, Lifetime Achievement Award
- Kansas State Sen. Jim Denning, Friend of Medicine Award
- Sheila McGreevy, MD, Patient and Community Advocate Award
- Sukumar Ethirajan, MD, Innovation Award
- Joanne Loethen, MD, MA, Rising Star Award
While all physicians are focused on their patients, over 50% of current physicians are displaying symptoms of burnout. This Journal unpacks some of the causes of burnout and ways to prevent fatigue and take some the weight of the “mental load” that many physicians carry.
We hope that you enjoy this special issue.
Angela and the entire Kansas City Medical Society team.
