Article Submission

IMPORTANT NOTICE: MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS MUST ADHERE TO AUTHOR INSTRUCTIONS


Manuscripts that fail to comply with the provided instructions for authors will be returned until the submission packet is corrected. Non-compliance may lead to delays in the peer-review or publishing process.

  • KCMS Member Preference in the Publication Queue
  • KCMS member authors will be prominently featured in the Table of Contents and throughout the Journal. Manuscripts from KCMS member authors accepted for publication in Missouri Medicine will receive priority in the publication queue. Join KCMS [link to KCMS membership] to avail of this benefit!


All Articles Must Include the Following:


  1. Copyright, Graphic & Photography Transfer
  2. Disclosure of Relevant Financial Relationships
  3. Disclosure of Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI): Authors should adhere to the AI Guidelines of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Please reference this policy in the "Disclosures" section of the article or manuscript, specifying if AI was utilized in accordance with JAMA guidelines or if not used at all.
  4. Corresponding Author Contact Information
  5. Manuscript Format:
  6. MS Word
  7. 12 point, double-spaced
  8. Author(s) highest degree/academic/title/affiliation
  9. Corresponding Author color photo
  10. Science of Medicine articles MUST have an abstract of 150 words or less
  11. References:
  12. Follow AMA Manual of Style
  13. Numerical order, presented at the end of the article (endnotes NOT footnotes)
  14. Reference numbers MUST be placed outside of punctuation
  15. When citing websites, include:
  16. Author Last name First name or initial, “Title of Web Page,” Publishing Organization or Name of Website, publication date and/or access date if available, URL
  17. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of references
  18. Illustrations/Photographs/Tables/Charts/Figures/Graphics:
  19. Manuscripts can have NO MORE THAN four Illustrations, photographs, tables, charts, figures, and graphics
  20. Dimensions must be no wider than 7 inches or longer than 9 inches
  21. 300 resolution dpi (dots per inch) or higher
  22. .jpeg or .tiff file format
  23. Titled/labeled. Example: tumors table 1; mortality rate figure 1, etc.
  24. Include legends in a separate Word document or at the end of the manuscript
  25. Illustrations, photographs, tables, charts, figures, and graphics can be inserted into the manuscript with the ability to extract them for placement
  26. Include permission to use if these elements are outside the author's ownership.
